There are several amateur-operated experimental stations, which work like a radio beacon. Some of them work in frequency ranges that are exclusively allocated to amateur and experimental radio, others work on a shared allocation on frequencies also used for 'utility radio stations'. From these stations there are a few QSLs presented.
A semi-professional station is DRA5/DK0WCY, Aurora Beacon Scheggerott, operated by the german main amateur radio club, for radio propagation analysis. See more details here
The stations observed by Rudi Renkwitz were all operating on frequencies close to the usual NDB frequency band.
